The story (so far)
In 2025 we were both looking for a car. We scrolled through the same listings week after week and noticed that buying a used car online works exactly as it did ten years earlier. A listing has photos, a price and a phone number. Everything else you work out yourself.
Almost everything else had changed in the meantime. Information moves more openly than ever, and big decisions are made with numbers rather than guesses. Car buying was left out of that, even though a car is one of the largest purchases most people ever make.
bilbil.fi brings car buying what it was missing. Next to each listing it shows the car’s price history, its time on the market and what the same model has actually sold for, so buyer and seller are looking at the same numbers.
In summer 2026 we launched the service as maksimi.fi. Estonia, Sweden and Germany followed in August, because a car’s history often continues on the other side of a border. At the end of September the name became bilbil.fi.
The biggest problem in car buying is information asymmetry. On BilBil, buyer and seller stand on the same line.
When the numbers are there for everyone to see, a good car at the right price stands out. That helps the seller as much as the buyer.
A small team
bilbil.fi is made by two first-year Aalto University students. Viktor builds the service, and Andreas looks after dealer partnerships and marketing.
We both like cars, and we build with love the kind of service we use ourselves. It already has over a thousand users, and growth is accelerating.
Along the way
- 2025 The idea is born while we are car shopping ourselves.
- July 2026 bilbil.fi opens under the name maksimi.fi.
- August 2026 Estonia, Sweden and Germany join the same search.
- September 2026 The name becomes bilbil.fi.
- October 2026 Sweden gets its own site, bilbil.se.

Everyone sees the same price history, the same time on the market, the same price rating and the most extensive technical data on the market. Save a car you like and you will see as soon as its price changes.
